vWorker has recently become aware of an employer who is opening new accounts in an attempt to post large projects and scam workers into sending security deposits offsite. Some of the recent projects refer to the site http://www.buildyourrichwebapp.com/.
The employer is posting links within the private messages with instructions for workers to complete a Memorandum of Understanding. The terms of the contract state that payment will be sent through PayPal, and the contract requires the selected worker to deposit a refundable security deposit of $500.00 to the employer before commencement of the project. The contract also implies that all work will be conducted off of the vWorker site. These requests violate the vWorker agreement, and put workers at risk of being scammed.
If you run into this person on-site (or have spoken with them off-site), please DO NOT send ANY money to them via Western Union, Moneygram, Paypal, Moneybookers, or any other means. vWorker has permanently closed their accounts because of this issue. However, they may attempt to open a new account in order to continue the scam. If you happen to see a project posted in which the employer asks for something similar to the above, please use the “Report” link to let us know right away, or contact our office so that we can investigate the project ASAP.
